Mavericks Hit the Road For Games With the Warriors and Peacocks

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's basketball team (4-2, 1-1 NSIC) will take its first road trip on the conference schedule as the team heads to Winona, Minn., and Fayette, Iowa for a pair of games with the Warriors and Peacocks. 
 
Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State (4-2, 1-1 NSIC), enters the week with a 4-2 record after defeating Southwest Minnesota State 76-60 Friday night before falling short to the #11 Sioux Falls Cougars 66-61, Saturday afternoon.
 
Stat Pack: As a team, Minnesota State is averaging 81.0 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 68.2. Additionally, the Mavericks average 43.2 rebounds per game and dish out 15.5 assists per game while stealing the ball 13.7 times per game.
 
Impact Mavericks: Junior forward Tayla Stuttley is the leading scorer for the Mavericks, averaging 10.7 points per game as well as leading the team in assists with 3.2 per game.  Senior guard Kirstin Klitzke the team's second leading scorer, averaging 10.2 points per game to go along with 1.3 steals per contest.  Junior forward Rachel Shumski is the leading rebounder for the Mavericks, averaging 7.2 boards per game while adding 9.0 points per game.
 
Youth Movement: Several underclassmen are making an early impact for the Mavericks this season. Center Kristi Fett is averaging 7.8 points per game while also averaging 4.5 rebounds a game.  Freshman guard Shea Fuller is averaging 7.5 points per game this season while sophomore forward Mikayla Nachazel has averaged 4.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per game off the bench.  Freshman guard Joey Batt is averaging 8.2 points per game to go along with 1.7 steals per contest.
 
Bench Squad: The bench players for the Mavericks have outscored their opponents 242-131 to date this season.
 
Scouting Winona State:  Winona State is located in Winona, Minn., and is currently 7-0 (3-NSIC) on the season. The Warriors are members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).  Winona State is led by head coach Scott Ballard who is in his 16th season as the leader of the program. 
 
As a team this season, the Warriors net 77.7 points per game in comparison to their opponents' 65.1. Winona State also snatches 40.1 rebounds and dishes out 7.7 assists per contest.
 
The Warriors are led by junior guard Allie Pickrain and junior guard Emily Kieck who average 12.3 and 11.6 points per game respectively. Junior forward Taylor Hustad leads SMSU in rebounding, averaging 8.1 boards per contest.
 
Friday's game will mark the 56th all-time meeting between these two programs, the most recent of which was an 59-49 win for the Mavericks last season.
 
Scouting Upper Iowa:  Upper Iowa University is located in Fayette, Iowa, and is currently 0-7 (0-3 NSIC) on the season. The Peacocks are members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).  Upper Iowa is led by head coach Nate Oakland who is in his first season as the leader of the program. 
 
As a team this season, the Peacocks net 51.2 points per game in comparison to their opponents' 68.6. Upper Iowa also snatches 35.4 rebounds and dishes out 8.5 assists per contest.
 
The Peacocks are led by freshman guard Jessica Musgrave who averages 15.0 points per game as well as a team leading 6.0 rebounds per game.  Freshman guard Brooke Evenson is the team's second leading rebounder, averaging 4.1 boards a game.

Saturday's game will mark the 26th all-time meeting between these two programs, the most recent of which was an 86-67 win for the Mavericks last season. 
 
Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will wrap up the 2019 portion its regular season with a home and home against travel partner Concordia-St. Paul.  Wednesday, the Mavericks will make the trip up to St. Paul to take on the Golden Bears at 5:30 p.m., before returning to Mankato, Minn., Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
