Mavericks Head to St. Could and Duluth For Final Regular Season Road Trip

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team (15-9) will travel to St. Cloud, Minn., and Duluth, Minn., this weekend for the team's final road trip of the regular season.  Friday night the Mavericks will face off against the Huskies at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Minnesota State will take on the Bulldogs with first serve scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Mavericks at a Glance: The Mavericks enter the week with a 15-9 (8-8 NSIC) overall record after dropping three matches against top 25 teams, losing 3-0 to #6 Concordia-St. Paul, 3-1 to #16 Winona State and 3-0 to #22 Upper Iowa.  

Impact Mavericks: Minnesota State is being led on offense by senior outside hitter Olson who has recorded 357 kills (4.70/s) while adding 43 blocks.  Sophomore setter Schindler leads the way in assists with 727 (9.32/s).  Seniors Ashton Lee and Anissa Janzig have recorded 61 and 66 blocks, respectively, on the defensive end.  

Scouting #8 St. Cloud State: St. Cloud State is located in St. Cloud, Minn., and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Huskies are currently 20-4 on the season with an 12-4 conference record and ranked eighth in the nation. St. Cloud State is coached by Chad Braegelmann who is in his fifth year with the team.

As a team this season, St. Cloud State is averaging 14.6 kills per set compared to its opponents 11.4. Additionally, the Huskies average 13.5 assists per set and 19.5 digs per frame. 

St. Cloud State is led on offense by Linsey Rachel who has recorded 335 kills on the season.  Maddy Torve is the primary setter for the team and has 1014 assists this season. 

Earlier this season, the Mavericks hosted the Huskies and fell in three sets.

Scouting #5 Minnesota Duluth: Minnesota Duluth is located in Duluth, Minn., and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Bulldogs are 21-3 this season with a 14-2 conference record and are currently ranked fifth in the Nation.  Minnesota Duluth is led by head coach Jim Boos who is currently in his 18th year with the team.

As a team this season, the Bulldogs average 15.3 kills per set while their opponents notch 10.4. Minnesota Duluth also averages 14.3 assists per set and 16.5 digs per set. 

Kate Berg leads the Bulldog offense with 351 kills on the season.  Emily Torve-Balts is the primary setter for Minnesota Duluth, having recorded 1015 assists. 

Earlier this season, the Mavericks played host to the Bulldogs and despite taking the third set, fell to Minnesota Duluth 3-1.

Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will return home for the final regular season weekend with a pair of matchups against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston.  Friday, the Mavericks will host the Beavers with first serve scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Minnesota State will celebrate the senior class as they take on the Golden Eagles with first serve scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
