Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team (18-10, 11-9 NSIC) put a bow on their 2019 regular season with a 3-0 victory (25-17, 25-16, 25-8) over Minnesota Crookston (4-24, 2-18 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon, a day which saw the Mavericks honor their four seniors, Anissa Janzig, Ashton Lee, Morgan Olson and Haley Shimon.
The first set was neck and neck out of the gates. The Mavericks took their first lead when they went up 18-17. Following the lead change, Minnesota State didn't look back and went on an 8-0 run to take the first set 25-17.
The Mavericks were down early in the second set before a pair of 3-0 runs propelled them to an 8-7 lead. The Golden Eagles took their first timeout of the set with Minnesota State up 14-9 after a 4-0 run. Minnesota Crookston took their second timeout when the Mavericks extended their lead to 19-12. Minnesota State closed things out for a 2-0 advantage with a 25-16 win in set two.
The Mavericks got out to a quick start in the third set, taking a 6-1 lead that was followed up by a Minnesota Crookston timeout. The Mavericks then ran away with the set, dominating at the net, to win it 25-8 for the sweep. Â
Olson led the Mavericks in kills with 14 while Jessica Nelson finished second with nine of her own. Notching 37 assists was Dan Schindler while Mara Quam tallied 21 digs.
