MANKATO, Minn. --- The #23 Minnesota State soccer team extended its winning streak to four games Friday afternoon at The Pitch as it bested Minnesota Crookston 7-0.
With the win, MSU improves to 10-2 on the season, including a 7-2 NSIC record. With the loss, UMC drops to 0-9, including a 0-8 conference record. The seven goals are the most scored in a game by the Mavericks this season.
Freshman
Allie Williams had a big day for the Mavericks as she posted a hat trick, bringing her season total to seven. Sophomore
Jenny Vetter also made her presence felt as she netted a pair of goals, including one on a penalty shot, to bring he season total to a team-leading 11 goals.
Sophomore
Nadia Lowery also recorded a goal, her fourth of the season, while senior
Julia Nellis recorded her first of the season. Junior
Taylor Barzowski recorded a pair of assists as well.
Freshman goalkeeper
Mackenzie Rath improved to 2-1 on the season, while Jacqueline Burke dropped to 0-1.
As a unit, Minnesota State recorded 21 shots, including 11 on goal, while the Golden Eagles were limited to two shots, including one on goal. The Mavericks also enjoyed an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Vetter notched both of her goals in the 28th minute, including one via a penalty shot, to put the Mavericks up 2-0. Twelve minutes, later Lowry put the Mavericks up 3-0 before heading into halftime.
Early on in the second half Williams record her first two goals in the 58th and 59th minutes. Her first goal came via a free kick, while Barzowski assisted on the second one. Nellis then tallied her first goal of the season in the 74th minute, before Williams completed the hat trick with a goal in the 77th minutes, once again assisted by Barzowski.
Minnesota State wraps up its home weekend on Sunday as it hosts Bemidji at The Pitch. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
