Blueger Becomes 13th Former Maverick to Play in NHL

     Mankato, Minn. --- Former Minnesota State center Teddy Blueger made his National Hockey League debut Thursday when he suited up for Pittsburgh in a home game vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Blueger, who was selected by the Penguins in the second round of the 2012 NHL draft (52nd overall), had a +1 rating and two minutes in penalties in 6:22 of ice time in Pittsburgh's 4-2 win over the Lightning.

Blueger, a native of Riga, Latvia, was a four-year letterwinner for Minnesota State from 2012-16 and finished his career with 31 goals and 77 assists for 108 points in 155 games played.  An alternate captain for the Mavericks as a senior when he was named team MVP, Blueger's 108 points ties for tenth on Minnesota State's career points list. A 2015-16 First Team All-WCHA selection, he led Minnesota State in scoring and assists as a senior with 11 goals and 24 assists for 35 points.

Blueger is the 13th former player from Minnesota State to play in the NHL. Besides Blueger, other former Minnesota State players to play in the NHL include Tim Jackman (MSU 2000-02), Ryan Carter (2004-06), Grant Stevenson (MSU 2001-03), David Backes (MSU 2003-06), Steve Wagner (MSU 2004-07), Jon Kalinski (MSU 2005-08), Travis Morin (MSU 2003-07), Tyler Pitlick (MSU 2009-10), Eriah Hayes (MSU 2009-13), Kael Mouillierat MSU 2006-10) Casey Nelson (MSU 2013-16) and Daniel Brickley (MSU 2015-18).
