1/22/2019 3:24:00 PM

MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's hockey will host Bemidji State as it gets back to WCHA action this upcoming weekend. Puck will drop on Friday at 7:07 p.m., and Saturday at 3:07 p.m. There will be a Skate with the Mavericks event following the game on Saturday.

Minnesota State All-Time: The MSU women's hockey program, which started in 1998-99, is currently in its 21st season of competition and has compiled a 185-475-61 (.299) record in 721 total games played. Last Time on the Ice: Minnesota State (9-11-4, 3-10-2-1 WCHA) played the first half of a road WCHA series against St. Cloud State and lost 3-1 last Friday. The Mavericks then turned around and defeated Bemidji State 2-1 at Lake Bemidji on Hockey Day.

On Friday, St. Cloud State was the first to strike in the first period with a goal from Laura Kluge. At the 16:29 mark in the second period, senior Rebekah Kolstad scored the only goal for Minnesota State as she fired a back-handed shot from the middle of the ice that went top shelf over the goaltender's glove. The Huskies scored two in the third period to defeat the Mavericks 3-1.

The Mavericks came out with excitement and passion against Bemidji State on Hockey Day. MSU struck first early as freshman Brooke Bryant scored just under two minutes into the game. Junior Emily Antony forced a turnover and won a battle on the boards before passing it up to Bryant. Bryant then faked out a Beaver defender and beat the goaltender one-on-one to go up 1-0. BSU was able to answer before time expired in the first period to pull even with the Mavericks. Minnesota State took the lead in the second period as sophomore Brittyn Fleming tipped Antony's shot out of the air and put it between the goaltender's legs. This proved to be the game-winning goal as the final period went scoreless.

In net, freshman Abigail Levy (9-11-4) started both games for the Mavericks on the weekend collecting 38 saves on 42 opportunities. Levy ended the weekend with a .905 save percentage and a 2.05 goals-against average.
