Mavericks Prepare for Road Trip to Wayne State and Augustana

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's basketball team (6-10, 3-9 NSIC) will travel this weekend to take on Wayne State (12-6, 7-5 NSIC) Saturday, at 3:30 p.m., before facing off against Augustana (17-4, 9-3 NSIC) Sunday at 1:30 p.m. 
 
Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State (6-10, 3-9 NSIC), enters the week after coming up short against Minnesota Duluth 72-66 in overtime last Friday.  Saturday, the Mavericks cruised to a 78-62 win over the St. Cloud State Huskies.

Impact Mavericks: Junior forward Taylor Drost is the leading scorer for the Mavericks, averaging 11.6 points per game, including a career best 21-point outing against the Michigan Tech Huskies that she also matched against the University of Mary. Senior guard Monica Muth is the second leading scorer on the team averaging 10.2 points per game.  Sophomore forward Brooke Tonsfeldt is averaging the most rebounds with 6.7 per game and also is averaging 1.9 steals per game.

Freshman Fire: Several freshmen are making an early impact for the Mavericks this season. Center Kristi Fett is averaging 6.1 points per game while also averaging 4.8 rebounds a game and leading the team with 13 blocks. Guard Rylee Menster is averaging 5.6 points per game while shooting 47.6% from the floor.

Stat Pack: As a team Minnesota State is averaging 74.8 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 71.7. Additionally, the Mavericks average 42.6 rebounds per game and dish out 14.7 assists per game and steal the ball 8.9 times per game.  

Scouting Wayne State:  Wayne State is located in Wayne, Neb., and is currently 12-6 (7-5 NSIC) on the season. The Wildcats are members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Wayne State is led by head coach Brent Pollari who is in his 1st season with the program.
 
As a team this season, the Wildcats net 70.4 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 67.5. Wayne State also snatches 39.6 rebounds and dishes out 16.0 assists per contest. 

The Wildcats are led by sophomore forward Erin Norling  who is averaging 14.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.  Sophomore center Brittany Bongartz is the second leading scorer for the team averaging 12.2 points per game and is second on the team with 5.8 rebounds per game.  .

Saturday's game will mark the 26th all-time meeting between these two programs, the most recent of which was a 92-73 road loss for the Mavericks last season.

Scouting Augustana:  Augustana is located in Sioux Falls, S.D., and is currently 10-4 (7-3 NSIC) on the season. The Vikings are members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).  Augustana is led by head coach David Krauth who is in his 30th season as the leader of the program.  

As a team this season, the Vikings net 79.9 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 59.8. Augustana also snatches 44.7 rebounds and dishes out 16.8 assists per contest. 

The Vikings are led by senior center Shellby Selland who is averaging 14.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.  Senior guard Lynsey Prosser is the second leading scorer for the team with 12.9 points per game.  

Saturday's game will mark the 74th all-time meeting between these two programs, the most recent of which was an 81-53 loss in the NSIC tournament that ended the Mavericks season.  

Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will return home next weekend when it plays MSU Moorhead Friday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 p.m.  Saturday the Mavericks will host Northern State at 3:30 p.m.
