MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State junior
Evan Heim has been named to the D2Football.com All-American First Team for his efforts this past season.
This is the second All-American honor that Heim has received this season. Earlier, Heim was named to the D2CCA All-American Second Team. Both juniors
Nate Gunn and
Shane Zylstra received a D2Football.com Honorable Mention.
An offensive lineman from De Pere, Wis., Heim played and started in all 14 games for the Mavericks this past season. As a member of the offensive line, Heim helped the Mavericks rush for 3,345 yards and 37 touchdowns this past season, both of which are the fifth most in a season in team history. As a unit, the Maverick offensive line allowed just 12 sacks in 14 games.
A tailback from Minooka, Ill., Gunn set single-season team records with 1,705 rushing yards and 22 touchdown carries in 2018. He rushed for more than 100 yards in nine games last season, including a career-high 261 yards against Tarleton State in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
A wide receiver from Spicer, Minn., Zylstra led all Maverick receivers with 66 catches for 1,261 yards and 14 touchdowns. He recorded more than 100 receiving yards in five games this past season, including a season-high 178 yards against Ferris State in the fourth round of the NCAA Tournament.
Minnesota State finished its 2018 season with a 13-1 record as it advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.
