Mankato, Minn. ---   #6/7 Minnesota State got goals from five different players in downing #18 Lake Superior State, 5-3, in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action Friday in Mankato, Minn.

The win extended the Mavericks' unbeaten streak to four games and ended Lake Superior State's unbeaten streak at eight games.

The host Mavericks jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead with the first goal of the game coming at the 8:10 mark when junior captain Nick Rivera stole the puck at the Lake Superior State blue line and went in on a shorthanded breakaway before going forehand, backhand in depositing the puck behind Nick Kossoff for his sixth goal of the year. The shorty is the first this season and the third of his career.  At 17:30, senior winger Max Coatta found a loose puck in the crease and pushed the puck into the net for his seventh tally of the season.

Freshman defenseman Wyatt Aamodt wired a shot from the left circle in collected his first career goal at 3:56 of the second in giving Minnesota State a 3-0 lead. Lake State's leading scorer, Diego Cuglietta scored his 17^th goal of the season at 12:57 to cut the deficit to two, but Julian Napravnik's power play marker with just four seconds to go in the period gave the Mavericks a 4-1 edge at the end of 40 minutes of action.

Max Humitz's goal at 1:17 of the third made a 4-2 game, but Parker Tuomie's tenth goal of the year, which came on a breakaway at 8:10, allowed Minnesota State to regain its three-goal cushion. Melvin Karlsson's goal for the Lakers at 16:15 closed out the scoring in the game.

Freshman Dryden McKay, who has started 12 of the last 13 games for Minnesota State, had 23 saves in the win and now stands 12-4-1 for the season.  Recording multiple-point games for the Mavericks were Jake Jaremko (two assists), Parker Tuomie (one goal and one assist), Wyatt Aamodt (one goal and one assist) and Julian Napravnik (one goal and one assist).

The Mavericks, who were one-for-six in power play chances in the contest, outshot the Lakers by a 34-26 margin. 

The Mavericks, who stand atop the WCHA standings with 42 points on a 14-3-0 league mark and are unbeaten at home (12-0-0), upped their overall record to 19-5-1 on the year and lead the nation in wins with 19 victories.

The two teams close out the two-game league series Saturday night with a 7:07 p.m. face-off scheduled.
