Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball (9-1, 2-0 NSIC) team Defeated Upper Iowa (7-3, 0-2 NSIC) in an electric 3-2 match in its home opener of the 2018 season.
The first set saw the Mavericks getting out to an early lead and they didn't't look back. They won the set, 25-18,
Morgan Olson lead the way in the set with eight kills.
Micayla Porter set her up numerous times with nine assists.
In the second set, Minnesota State started off slow but made a late-set rally in an attempt to come from behind. However, the Mavericks came up short and Upper Iowa came out on top, 25-17.
Minnesota State played from behind throughout most of the third set. In the end, the Mavericks surged and went on to take the set coming from behind to take the set 25-22. Minnesota State's,
Alivia Garbe made an impact recording 12 kills and 10 digs.
The fourth set, similar to the third, saw Minnesota State trailing most of the way. In the end, the Mavericks fell short in another comeback effort, dropping the set 25-22.
The fifth set was commanded by Minnesota State, who won the set with a score of 15-9, capped off on ace from
Garbe, as the Mavericks defeated the Peacocks 3-2 to secure a home opening win and improve to 9-1 on the season.
In the match,
Olson led the team with 25 kills and a .327 attacking percentage and
Garbe added 17 kills.
Porter led the Mavericks with 37 assists in the match and added 15 digs while
Mara Quam led all players with 37 digs.
