Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team will be on the road this weekend as it travela to Moorhead, Minn. to take on MSU Moorhead at 6:00 p.m., before traveling to Aberdeen, S.D., to take on #3 ranked Northern State at 6:00 p.m.
Mavericks at a Glance: The Mavericks enter the week with a 10-5 (3-4 NSIC) overall record after dropping a pair of home matches 3-1 against Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls last weekend.
Impact Mavericks: Morgan Olson leads the Mavericks with a team best 243 kills and a .405 attacking percentage.
Mara Quam has compiled 279 digs to begin the year, and
Micayla Porter leads the teams in assists with 365.
By the Numbers: As a team this season, Minnesota State has posted 13.5 kills per set in comparison to its opponents 11.8. Additionally, the Mavericks add 13.0 assists per set and 14.0 digs per set.
Young Talent: The freshman class has contributed 139 digs, 313 assists, 79 kills and 34 blocks this season. Freshman
Lauren Lowry is second on the team with 306 assists and
Dana Schindler is fourth on the team with 73 kills.
Scouting MSU Moorhead: MSU Moorhead is located in Moorhead, Minn., and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Dragons are 9-5 (5-2 NSIC) so far this season and are led by 24th year head coach Tammy Blake.
As a team this season, MSU Moorhead posts 11.9 kills per set while their opponents average 11.8 The Dragons also total 11.1 assists per set and 17.6 digs per set.
Freshman Amanda Carlson leads the MSU Moorhead attack with 153 kills on the season and junior Kaylyn Jenkins is second on the team with 116. Senior Monica Vega leads the Dragons with 282 digs this season.
Scouting Northern State: Northern State is located in Aberdeen, S.D., and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Wolves are 14-1 (6-1 NSIC) so far this season and are currently ranked third in the nation. Northern State is led by head coach Brent Aldridge who is in his eighth season with the Wolves.
As a team this season, the Wolves total 14.8 kills in comparison to its opponents' 9.6. Additionally, Northern State posts 13.9 assists per set and 16.0 digs per set.
Senior Hailey Busch leads the Wolves with 201 kills on the season and junior Jenna Reiff has added 150 kills. Junior Ashley Rozell is the primary setter for Northern State and has compiled 616 assists on the season.
Looking Ahead: The Mavericks will return to Mankato Friday Oct. 5th to take on Minot State at 6:00 p.m., before facing off against University of Mary Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
