Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State (10-3, 3-2 NSIC) volleyball team fell to Southwest Minnesota State (9-4, 4-1 NSIC) Friday Night at Taylor Center by a score of 3-1 (22-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-22). 
 
In set one, The Mavericks got out to an early 8-3 lead and didn't look back. Going on a 5-0 run in the midst of the set to increase their lead to 18-13. The Mustangs found a way to battle back to find themselves down by just a score of 19-18. However, the Mavericks would hold on to take the first set 25-22. 
Mara Quam kept Minnesota State with a total of 10 digs and two assists.
 
The second set saw the Mustangs with the strong start, leading throughout much of the second set. They went on a 6-0 run to jump out in front to a score of 19-8. In the end, the Mustangs would hold on to even the match at 1-1 after winning the second set 25-13. 
Morgan Olson was putting the Mavericks on the board, racking up a total of seven kills through the first two sets.
 
Southwest Minnesota State picked up where they left off in the third set. They would take it by a score of 25-20 after denying Minnesota State of a late comeback effort. With the help of two 4-0 runs early in the set, the Mustangs got out to an early 7-3 lead. Down 22-14, the Mavericks comeback effort was denied as they fell 20-25 in the third set. 
Morgan Olson finished the third set with a solid 11 digs and nine kills.
 
Like the first set, it was another neck-and-neck battle in the fourth set. Ultimately the Mustangs would prevail by a score of 25-22 to win the match. The fourth set saw nine different tied scores. 
Garbe was again the difference maker, totaling 16 digs and 15 kills in the match.
 
Tomorrow afternoon the Mavericks will host Sioux Falls at 2:00 p.m. at Taylor Center.
