Blueger Joins Latvia at IIHF World Championship

      Mankato, Minn. --- Former Minnesota State center Teddy Blueger has joined Team Latvia for the 2018 IIHF World Championship in Denmark.

Blueger, who had 21 goals and 24 assists for 45 points in 70 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League this year, is making his second appearance at the IIHF World Championship.  The Riga native represented Latvia last spring and scored one goal in seven games.

Blueger played for Minnesota State from 2012-16, serving as an alternate captain and was team MVP as a senior. He finished his collegiate career with 31 goals and 77 assists for 108 points in 155 games played with his 108 points standing tied for ninth on Minnesota State's career points list. His 13 career game-winners stand tied for fourth on school's all-time list.  An All-WCHA First Team pick in 2015-16, he led Minnesota State in scoring and assists as a senior with 11-24--35.

Minnesota State has had five players participate in the IIHF World Championships.  In addition to Blueger, current forward Marc Michaelis is also playing for Germany in this year's event.  Former Minnesota State players who also played at the world championship include defenseman Daniel Brickley and forwards Ryan Carter and David Backes.   Brickley, who played for Minnesota State from 2015-18, played for Team USA at the 2017 IIHF World Championship. Carter, who played for Minnesota State from 2004-06, played in the 2010 and 2013 world championship tournaments (also with Team USA), while Backes (MSU 2003-06) has played in three world championship tournaments (2007, 2008 and 2009 with Team USA).
