Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's golf team has received an invitation to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division II postseason tournament.
The Mavericks, who earned an at large berth as one of 48 teams selected for NCAA postseason play, will compete in the NCAA DII Central Regional scheduled to be played at Missouri Bluffs in in St. Charles, Mo., May 7-9 Besides Minnesota State, the other teams competing at the regional will be Augustana, Arkansas Tech, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Henderson State, Northeastern (Okla.) State, Central Oklahoma, Lindenwood, Missouri Western, Central Missouri, Oklahoma Baptist and Nebraska Kearney.
The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each of the four super regionals will advance to the national championship tournament. The NCAA DII Women's Golf Championships will be held May 16-19 in Houston, Tex.
Minnesota State will be making its 11th consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament and 19th overall.
Junior
Haley Tollette (Andover, Minn.), who leads the Mavericks with a 78.8 mark this year, will be making her third NCAA tournament appearance. Tollette placed 23rd in her NCAA tournament debut in 2016 and was 40th as a sophomore in 2017.
A pair of juniors in
Abbe Partington (Winona, Minn./82.3) and
Nattiya Somboonsup (Chonburi, Thailand/83.2) also have two NCAA tournament appearances under their belts. Partington tied for 50th and a freshman and tied for 28th as a sophomore in 2017. Sombonsup tied for 56th as a freshman in 2016 and tied for 28th in 2017. Senior
Genie Short (Irvine, Calif., 80.8) made her NCAA tournament debut in 2015 as a freshman where she finished 47th. Short tied for 59th as a junior in 2017. Sophomore
Maddy Schintz (Duluth, Minn., 82.1) tied for 54th in her NCAA tournament debut in 2017.
Mavericks who could make their NCAA tournament debuts this year include sophomore
Kayla Thielen (Marinette, Wis., 83.4) and freshmen
Maddi Messin (Forest Lake, Minn./80.8),
Alissa Carlson (Chanhassen, Minn./83.4),
Faith Krause (Franklin, Wis./86.2)
and
Jordan Wurm (Buffalo, Minn./86.3).
Head coach
Nick Campa, who has led the Mavericks to three regional titles, is in his 28th year in charge of the Minnesota State women's golf program.
