MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State junior
Shane Zylstra has been named to the AFCA All-American Second Team for his efforts on the field this season.
A native of Spicer, Minn., Zylstra currently leads the Maverick receiving corps with 57 catches for 1,083 yards and 14 touchdowns. He has caught at least one touchdown pass in 12 of MSU's 13 games this season, and is one of just six Mavericks in team history to record more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season. Zylstra is tied with Josh Nelsen as MSU's all-time leader in career touchdown catches with 36.
Zylstra is the third Maverick in the last four seasons to receive AFCA All-American honors. Senior
Casey Bednarski received the honor in 2017 and
Josh Gordon claimed the honor in 2015.
Minnesota State continues its season in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday as it hosts #2 Ferris State at Blakeslee Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
