Box Score Marshall, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team (16-10, 9-9 NSIC) dropped its match with 12th-rated Southwest Minnesota State (20-7, 13-4 NSIC) Saturday afternoon in Marshall, Minn., by a score of 3-0 (25-6, 25-18, 25-13).
In the first set the Mustangs came out on fire, starting the match with a 16-2 run. They continued their early run and came away with the first set 25-6 to take a 1-0 lead.Â
The second set saw the Mavericks keep the score tight in the early going until SMSU pulled ahead to take an 18-11 lead. Minnesota State kept the match within reach but ultimately the Mustangs took the set 25-18.
In the third set the SMSU jumped out to an early lead once again gaining a 16-8 edge. The Mavericks weren't able to tighten the match and ultimately dropped the final set 25-13.Â
Alivia Garbe led the Mavericks with seven kills in the match and added six digs.Â
Mara Quam led the team in digs with eight, and
Micayla Porter had 12 assists.
The Mavericks return home next weekend to wrap up the regular season with a match versus Wayne State Friday, at 6:00 p.m., and against Augustana Saturday, at 2:00 p.m.
