Mavericks Ready to Face Golden Eagles and Beavers at Home

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's basketball team returns to Taylor Center in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action on Friday against Minnesota Crookston at 6:00 p.m. The Mavericks will close the weekend against Bemidji State on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.

Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State (6-14, 4-10 NSIC) enters the weekend after coming up short in the final seconds at Concordia-St. Paul, 74-42, Tuesday evening in St. Paul, Minn. 

Impact Mavericks: Senior Claire Ziegler leads Minnesota State with a team-high 12.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game which ranks eighth in the NSIC. Senior Claire Jordan is netting 9.9 points per contest, while junior Monica Muth is contributing 7.3 points and team-best 2.2 assists per game. 

Stat Pack: As a team this season, Minnesota State is registering 66.4 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 71.8. The Mavericks are also collecting 39.2 rebounds and 10.9 assists per contest. 

Controlling the Boards: The Mavericks are currently slotted fourth in the NSIC with 39.2 rebounds per game and are ranked second in offensive rebounds with 13.7. Minnesota State pulled down a season-high 53 rebounds against Palm Beach Atlantic and Chaminade. 

Heating Up: Senior Claire Ziegler recorded her third straight and fifth double-double of the season with a season-high 19 points and game-best 12 rebounds. Over the last three games, the Mankato, Minn., native has averaged 17.0 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. Ziegler also adds five blocks and three steals over that span. The forward has posted 15 career double-doubles. 

Having a Night: Senior Mackenzie Dahl posted her first career double-double at Concordia St. Paul with a career-high 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Minnetonka, Minn., native shot 6-of-7 (.857) and netted one three pointer in 36 minutes of action. 

Scouting Minnesota Crookston: Minnesota Crookston is located in Crookston, Minn., and enters the weekend 5-13 (5-9 NSIC) overall. Most recently, the Golden Eagles fell at Minot State, 77-67. Minnesota Crookston is led by 11th year head coach Mike Roysland. 

As a team, Minnesota Crookston is netting 64.5 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 68.9. The Golden Eagles are also collecting 32.9 rebounds with 12.0 assists per game. 

The last time these two teams met last season, Minnesota State topped Minnesota Crookston, 82-57, on the road. The Mavericks hold the edge in the all-time series, 15-6. 

Scouting Bemidji State: Bemidji State (4-14, 3-11 NSIC) is located in Bemidji, Minn. The Beavers have dropped their last eight contests and most recently came up short at U-Mary, 68-58. Bemidji State is led by third year head coach Chelsea DeVille. 

As a unit, the Beavers are totaling 57.0 points per game in comparison to their opponents 66.9. Bemidji State also adds 36.9 rebounds and 10.1 assists per contest.

The last time these two programs met last season, the Mavericks edged the Beavers, 75-64. Minnesota State has won the last seven meetings and leads the all-time series, 29-13.

Looking Ahead: Minnesota State travels to Minnesota Duluth on Feb. 2. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
