Big Rapids, Mich. --- Julia Mixon scored her first-career game-winning goal and
Taylor Livermore made a career-high seven saves as No. 10 Minnesota State soccer edged Ferris State 1-0 on Friday afternoon at the South Athletic Fields on the FSU campus.
Mixon, a sophomore forward, provided instant offense off the Maverick bench. She subbed into the match at 38:08 of the first half — the game tied 0-0 — and scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal at 39:12, as Minnesota State (2-0-0) led Ferris State (1-2-0) 1-0 at the half.
The Mavericks controlled the match in the first half — outshooting the Bulldogs 10-5. After halftime, the Bulldogs fought back and held an 8-6 edge in shots in the final 45:00. However, Livermore (1-0-0) — a junior goalkeeper — preserved the Maverick lead with five saves in the second half and a career-best seven saves for the match. She earned her fourth-career shutout — her first of 2017.
