Allendale, Mich. --- No. 10 Minnesota State soccer lost 2-0 at No. 14 Grand Valley State on Sunday afternoon.
Minnesota State (2-1-0) was the aggressor for most of the first half – outshooting Grand Valley State (2-2-0) 9-6 and controlling possession. Junior midfielder
Maddy Burandt had a scoring chance for the Mavericks in the 16th minute, but her shot hit the crossbar and the game remained scoreless going into halftime.
Grand Valley State controlled play for much of the second half and outshot Minnesota State 9-6 in the final 45:00. The Maverick defense turned away the Lakers' attack for much of the half but
Corey Sawall broke through for the Lakers with the decisive goal at 73:26, making the score 1-0.
After a Minnesota State free kick by senior midfielder
Jenny Hoerter soared over the top of the Grand Valley State net at the 82:03 mark,
Ava Cook doubled the Laker lead to 2-0 with a goal at 83:20. Hoerter hit the crossbar at 87:08 and the Mavericks were unable to score as time ran out.

Alexa Rabune (0-1-0) made six saves in net for Minnesota State.
Jennifer Steinaway stopped eight shots to earn the shutout for Grand Valley State.
Each team had 15 shots and eight shots on goal in the match.
