No. 14 Minnesota State Soccer Shuts Out Southwest Minnesota State 5-0

Marshall, Minn. --- Five different student-athletes scored goals as No. 14 Minnesota State soccer defeated Southwest Minnesota State 5-0 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match on Sunday afternoon. 
 
Senior midfielder Lexi Pszanka got the scoring started in the 18th minute to put Minnesota State (6-1-0, 4-0-0 NSIC) up 1-0 over Southwest Minnesota State (0-7-0, 0-5-0 NSIC). Pszanka garnered the game-winning goal for the second consecutive match.
 
Neither team scored for the remainder of the first half, but Minnesota State held a 17-3 edge in shots after the first 45:00.   
 
In the second half, Minnesota State kept applying offensive pressure and junior midfielder Maddy Burandt, junior forward Lauren Kizlik, freshman forward Molly Sarafolean and freshman forward Zoe Wright each added a goal to make the final score 5-0. Burandt scored her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute, Kizlik garnered her second of 2017 in the 68th minute, Sarafolean tallied her first collegiate goal in the 76th minute, and Wright recorded her first collegiate goal in the 84th minute. 
 
Junior defender Abby Hausken, sophomore midfielder Bri Ciaccio, freshman midfielder Abbie Osgood and sophomore midfielder Julia Nellis each garnered an assist. Osgood and Ciaccio each garnered their first collegiate point.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Ryann Rydeen (3-0-0) made two saves in goal for the Mavericks to record her third consecutive shutout to begin 2017. Rydeen has nine career shutouts.
 
Jenna Meyer (0-1-0) made nine saves in goal for the Mustangs.
 
The Mavericks, who outshot the Mustangs 35-5, have now won three consecutive matches and have recorded six shutouts on the season.
 
Minnesota State comes home to face Concordia-St. Paul on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., at The Pitch.
