MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State volleyball head coach
Lori Rittenhouse-Wollmuth has announced that
Micayla Porter and
Mara Quam will join the Maverick volleyball team in the fall.
All signings and transfers are contingent upon admission to MSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
An Aubrey, Tex., native, Porter was a four-year letterwinner at Aubrey High School. The utility player competed as a setter and libero for the Lady Chaps in which she led the team in assists and aces all four years including setting the pace in hits her senior season. Porter was named District Volleyball Setter of the Year and was named team captain during her senior season. Additionally, Porter was a three time All-District First team selection.
"I am very excited to bring Micayla into our program," said Rittenhouse-Wollmuth. "She is extremely athletic, a strong competitor and is one of the hardest workers I've seen. We are looking forward to the energy and intensity she will bring into our gym. When she plays you can see how much she loves the game of volleyball. This will most definitely bring out the best in her teammates."
A Kenyon, Minn., native Quam was a four-year letterwinner at Kenyon-Wanamingo High School. The outside hitter was named to the All-State team her senior year and was an three-time All-Hiawatha Valley League selection. Additionally, Quam was an All-State selection in both basketball and track & field.
"Mara is a great competitor who will help make our program better the first day she walks through our doors," said Rittenhouse-Wollmuth. "She has a quiet intensity, plays very consistent and handles pressure extremely well in the big moments. We are very excited about her future as Maverick."
Minnesota State finished the 2016 season with a 16-13 (10-10 NSIC) record and advanced to the NSIC Tournament.
