Minnesota State Set for Final Regular Season Road Trip

MANKATO, Minn. ---  The Minnesota State women's basketball team will hit the road to take on Upper Iowa on Friday at 6:00 p.m. The Mavericks will conclude the road trip at No. 23 Winona State. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. 

Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State has won four of its last five games and has a overall record of 13-9 and a 9-9 NSIC record. Most recently, the Mavericks rolled past St. Cloud State, 83-55, at Taylor Center. Senior Karina Schroeder led the way with her third double-double of the season posting a season-best 12 rebounds and added 17 points. Senior Britney Scherber contributed a game-high 21 points. 

Impact Mavericks: Senior Britney Scherber leads the Mavericks netting 11.5 points per game. Junior Claire Ziegler is pulling down a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game which slots her ninth in the NSIC. Sophomore Monica Muth is distributing a team-best 2.5 assists per contest.

Stat Pack: As a team this season, Minnesota State is averaging 72.5 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 67.6. Additionally, the Mavericks are collecting 43.9 rebounds per contest and add 14.3 assists per game.

Bench Production: The Minnesota State bench has contributed at least 20 points in 14 games this season. Last weekend, the bench netted 20 points against both Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State.  

Down Low Presence: The Mavericks established a presence down low recording 34 points in the paint against both Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State last weekend.  
Back-to-Back: Senior Karina Schroeder recorded back-to-back double-doubles this past weekend with a team-best in both points (17) and rebounds (10) against Minnesota Duluth. She closed the weekend with a season-high 12 rebounds and added 17 points vs. St. Cloud State. 

Controlling the Boards: The Mavericks are collecting 43.9 rebounds per game which ranks first in the NSIC. In its most recent game, Minnesota State recorded its second highest rebounding total of the season with 55 against St. Cloud State. The Mavericks are 13-2 when winning the rebounding battle this season. 

Fast Paced Offense: The Mavericks are averaging 72.5 points per game which ranks third in the NSIC. 

Fresh Legs: Freshman Taylor Klug is averaging 7.9 points per game and has appeared in 21 games. Freshman Taylor Drost is netting 5.5 points in 20 games off the bench this season. 

Scouting Upper Iowa: Upper Iowa is located in Fayette, Iowa and has an overall record of 3-19 and a 3-15 NSIC record. The Peacocks enter the week on a two game losing skid after most recently dropping a 69-66 decision to MSU Moorhead on the road. Upper Iowa is led by head coach Micha Thompson who is in her first season. 

Earlier this season, the Mavericks dispatched the Peacocks, 74-63, at Taylor Center on Dec. 10. The Mavericks lead the all-time series, 19-0. 

As a team this season, Upper Iowa is averaging 60.0 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 71.6. The Peacocks are also totaling 36.3 rebounds and 10.1 assists per game. 

Sophomore Blair Klosterman leads the Peacocks with a team-high 18.1 points per game. Sophomore Haley Martin is grabbing a team-best 5.7 rebounds per contest while redshirt senior Carly Pagel is netting 10.1 points per game. 

Scouting #23 Winona State: Winona State is located in Winona, Minn., and has an overall record of 19-5 and a 14-4 NSIC record. Additionally, WSU is ranked No. 23 in this weeks WBCA Coaches Poll.  The Warriors have won three out of their last four games and most recently fought to a 65-53 win over Northern State.  The Warriors are led by head coach Scott Ballard who is in his 13th season. 

Earlier this season, Winona State topped Minnesota State, 79-64, at Taylor Center on Dec. 9. Since 2012, the Mavericks are 6-5 vs. the Warriors. However, Winona State leads the all-time series, 34-17.

As a team this season, the Warriors are totaling 67.7 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 57.5. Winona State also leads the NSIC in field goal percentage (.460) and three point shooting percentage (.382). 

Senior Tara Roelofs leads the Warriors with a team-best 13.7 points per game. Junior Hannah McGlone is pulling down a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game and adds 9.7 points per contest.  

Looking Ahead: The Mavericks will return to Taylor Center on Feb. 17 against Southwest Minnesota State. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
