Minnesota State Women’s Hockey Falls 6-1 at Bemidji State

Junior Forward Hannah Davidson Scores the Mavericks’ Lone Goal

Bemidji, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's hockey lost 6-1 to Bemidji State in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game on Friday night at Sanford Center.  
 
Minnesota State (6-24-4, 3-21-3-1 WCHA) came out attacking in the first period – outshooting Bemidji State (11-17-3, 7-17-3-1 WCHA) 11-6 – but Bemidji State took a 1-0 lead when freshman forward Abby Halluska (4-6--10) scored on a breakaway at 6:41 of the first period.
 
The Beavers pulled away in the second period – outshooting the Mavericks 18-2 and scoring three more goals to make the score 4-0. Sophomore forward Emily Bergland (15-9--24) scored the first two goals of the period at 16:12 and 18:12, respectively. The third goal of the period was scored by freshman forward Haley Mack (3-9--12) at 19:37.
 
Bemidji State added two more goals in the third period to go up 6-0. Senior forward Lauren Miller (8-8--16) and senior forward Ciscely Nelson (3-1--4) scored for the Beavers at 7:10 and 9:29, respectively.
 
The Mavericks fought back and scratched out a power play goal at 17:32 of the third period. Junior forward Hannah Davidson (4-7--11) – the Mavericks' active leader in career goals (18), assists (25) and points (43), scored for the second straight game. Freshman forward Demi Gardner (4-2--6) and junior forward Sara Bustad (3-4--7) assisted on the play.
 
Gardner extended her point streak to a career-high four games, while Davidson and Bustad each have two-game point streaks.
 
Bergland led the Bemidji State offense in both goals (2) and points (3) on the evening.     
 
Freshman goaltender Chloe Crosby (0-1-0) – making her first career start – made 30 saves for Minnesota State, while senior netminder Brittni Mowat (10-16-3) made 18 stops for Bemidji State.
 
The Mavericks finished 1-of-5 on the power play while the Beavers finished 2-of-3 with the man advantage. The Beavers also scored a shorthanded goal.  
 
Minnesota State and Bemidji State return to the ice on Saturday for their final game of the WCHA regular season. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:07 p.m., at Sanford Center.
