Minnesota State Ready to Open NSIC Play at Taylor Center

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's basketball team is set to open up Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play this weekend hosting Wayne State on Friday at 6:00 p.m. The Mavericks will wrap up the homestand against Augustana on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. 

Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State (1-4) went 1-1 last week at the Thanksgiving Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Mavericks opened the trip falling to Hawaii Pacific, 75-61, before downing Chaminade, 82-62. 

Impact Mavericks: Senior Claire Ziegler leads the Mavericks with 10.0 points per contest and is shooting 58.8% from the field. Junior Monica Muth is collecting a team-high 5.2 rebounds per game and adds 7.4 points per contest. Senior Logan Anderson is also contributing 9.4 points per game. 

Stat Pack: As a team this season, Minnesota State is posting 62.4 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 73.2. The Mavericks also add 38.6 rebounds per contest and 9.0 assists per game. 

Double-Double: Junior Monica Muth recorded her first career double-double against Chaminade with a season-high 11 points and 10 rebounds. She shot 71.4% from the field and registered a career-high 33 minutes. 

Welcome to the Starting Five: Senior Logan Anderson made her first career start against Hawaii Pacific last week. She netted 11 points and shot 37.5% from the field. She also contributed six rebounds and five assists over a career-high 33 minutes of action. Anderson has reached the double-digit scoring plateau in her last three games. 

Collecting 50: As a team, Minnesota State collected a season-high 53 rebounds against Chaminade with 20 coming on the offensive end. The last time the Mavericks pulled down 20 rebounds on the offensive side was against Sioux Falls on Feb. 18, 2017. 

High Scoring: Minnesota State netted a season-best 82 points in the win over Chaminade last weekend. The Mavericks shot 48.4% from the field and drained five three pointers.

Scouting Wayne State: Wayne State is located in Wayne, Neb., and enters the week with a 6-3 (0-1 NSIC) record. The Wildcats are on a two game win streak and most recently edged UC- Colorado Springs, 74-51. Wayne State is led by head coach Chris Kielsmeier who is in his 10th season. 

As a unit this season, the Wildcats are averaging 78.6 points per game in comparison to their opponents 60.9. Wayne State also adds 40.8 rebounds per contest and 16.3 assists per game. 

This will be the 25th all-time meeting between these two programs dating back to the 1976 season. Wayne State holds the advantage in the all-time series, 17-7. In their most recent meeting last season, Minnesota State came up short against Wayne State, 70-55, at Taylor Center. 

Senior Paige Ballinger is netting a team-high 11.4 points per game and is shooting 50.0% from the field. Senior Maggie Schulte is pulling down a team-best 6.8 rebounds per contest and is also contributing 10.8 points per game. 

Scouting Augustana: Augustana (5-0, 1-0 NSIC) is located in Sioux Falls, S.D., and is receiving votes in this weeks WBCA Coaches Poll. Most recently, the Vikings sailed past Lake Superior State, 100-61, at the Concordia-St. Paul Tournament. Augustana is led by head coach Dave Krauth who is in his 28th season at the helm. 

As a team this season, the Vikings are averaging 88.8 points per game in comparison to their opponents 66.4. Augustana is also totaling 42.2 rebounds per contest and 20.0 assists per game. 

This will be the 74th all-time encounter between these two schools with Augustana leading the all-time series, 44-29. In their most recent meeting last season, the Vikings topped the Mavericks, 91-68. 

Senior Paige Peterson sets the pace for Augustana with 15.0 points per game and is shooting 53.6% from the field. Senior Logan O'Farrell is collecting a team-high 6.6 rebounds per contest and adds 14.4 points per game. 

Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will travel to Winona State on Dec. 8. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
