Minnesota State Ready for Home Opener Against Black Hills State

MANKATO, Minn. ---  The Minnesota State women's basketball team is set to make its home debut as it welcomes Black Hills State on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m., at Taylor Center. 

Mavericks at a Glance: The Mavericks enter the week with a 0-2 overall record. Minnesota State dropped back-to-back contests to Washburn (78-65) and Pittsburg State (84-60) over the weekend at the Central Region Challenge in Kansas City, Mo.

In Home Openers: Since 2012-13, the Mavericks are 4-1 in home openers. Last season, Minnesota State edged Missouri Western State, 65-54. Senior Claire Ziegler led the Mavericks posting a double-double with a team-best 11 rebounds and 14 points. 

Impact Mavericks: Senior Claire Ziegler leads the Mavericks with 11.5 points per game to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. Senior Claire Jordan is also contributing 11.5 points per contest while junior Monica Muth adds 8.5 points per game and 10 rebounds. 

Stat Pack: As a team this season, Minnesota State is averaging 62.5 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 81.0. The Mavericks are also collecting 36.5 rebounds per game and handing out 4.5 assists per contest. 

Career Days: Senior Claire Jordan posted a team-best and career-high 16 points to go along with three rebounds and three steals against Washburn. She shot 62.5% from the field (5-8) and 100% from the charity stripe (5-5) over 31 minutes played. Junior Ashley Reed also had a career day against Pittsburg State netting a team-high and career-best 14 points with five rebounds. She shot 50.0% from the field (5-10) and 66.6% at the free throw line (4-6) over 20 minutes of action. 

Welcome to the Starting Line Up: Sophomore Taylor Klug and Taylor Drost made their first career starts against Pittsburg State. 

Scouting Black Hills State: Black Hills State is located in Spearfish, S.D., and enters the week with a 2-0 overall record. The Yellow Jackets are members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Most recently,  Black Hills State cruised past Texas A&M University-Kingsville, 73-55. Black Hills State is led by 15th-year head coach Mark Nore. 

As a team, the Yellow Jackets are totaling 69.5 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 48.0. Black Hills State also adds 38.5 rebounds per contest and 18.5 assists per game. 

In their most recent meeting, Minnesota State downed Black Hills State, 71-67, last season in Spearfish, S.D. Junior Monica Muth contributed a team-best eight rebounds with 10 points. The Mavericks lead the all-time series, 2-0.    

Senior Rachel Erickson leads the Yellow Jackets with 22.5 points per game and is shooting 58.3% from the field and 66.7% from three. Redshirt junior Keely Bertram is averaging 8.0 rebounds per game with 8.5 points per contest.
