MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team earned its seventh sweep of the season after blanking Bemidji State, 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-14), Saturday afternoon at Taylor Center.
With the win, the Mavericks win their second straight match and improve to 11-8 (5-6 NSIC) on the season. With the loss, the Beavers drop to 3-17 (0-11 NSIC) overall.
Bemidji State jumped out with an early four point advantage, 10-6, after a Minnesota State attack error. The Mavericks pushed back later in the frame to lock things at 17 following a
Sydney Powell service ace. Anna Averkamp answered for the Beavers to steal a one point edge, 18-17. Minnesota State then closed out Bemidji State with an eight point explosion to win the opening frame, 25-18.
In the second frame, the Mavericks capitalized on three straight kills to take an early 10-7 advantage. Minnesota State kept its foot on the gas increasing the lead to eight, 20-12, after

Megan Hulscher for the tip. The Mavericks never trailed in the second stanza and went on to take the set, 25-14.
At the break, Powell and
Morgan Olson paced the Mavericks with six kills each.
Micayla Porter also handed out a match-best 15 assists.
In the third and final set, Minnesota State used a fast start to create a five point, 11-6, edge with the help of a
Jackie Jones kill. The Beavers then battled back with a 3-0 run to make the score 11-9. The Mavericks responded to stretch their lead into double-figures, 20-11, with a 9-2 run. Minnesota State closed out the frame, 25-14, and the match, 3-0.
As a team, the Mavericks held the edge in kills (42-24), assists (41-24), and digs (27-23). Minnesota State posted a .333 hitting percentage in comparison to Bemidji State's .053.
Olson set the standard for the Mavericks with a match-high 12 kills and .500 hitting percentage. Porter notched a match-best 24 assists while Risch also reached the double-digit plateau with 15. FreshmanÂ
Mara Quam rounded out the top performers with a match-leading 10 digs and has reached double-figures 16 times this season.
Minnesota State continues its home stand on Oct. 20 hosting Augustana. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
