Box Score Bemidji, Minn. --- Minnesota State swept Bemidji State, 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 27-25), Friday evening at BSU gymnasium in front of 214 fans.
The Mavericks jumped out to a quick 6-3 advantage after a
Morgan Olson kill. Minnesota State continued to build its lead to 12-6 before Bemidji State elected to use a time out . The Mavericks went on to cruise to a 25-14 win in set one.
Minnesota State carried momentum into the second frame growing a early 10-3 edge before a Beaver time out. The Mavericks swelled their lead to 19-12 following a
Krista Hassing kill. Minnesota State went on to close out the frame, 25-16.
In the third and final set, Bemidji State began to fight back with an 11-8 lead. The Beavers did not let up growing their edge to 14-10 before Minnesota State was forced to use a time out. The Mavericks then went on a 6-2 run to deadlock the set a 16. Both teams then traded points until Bemidji State stole a late, 25-24, lead. Minnesota State responded with three unanswered points highlighted by a match-winning
Jackie Jones service ace to propel the Mavericks to a 27-25 win.
Sophomore
Autumn Risch led the Mavericks with a match-best 45 assists and 14 digs. Senior
Haley Fogarty contributed a match-high 18 digs. Sophomore
Sydney Powell added a team-high 13 kills while Hassing and Jones notched 11 kills each to round out the Minnesota State top performers.
The Mavericks held the edge in kills (53-30), assists (49-28), and digs (61-51). Additionally, MSU posted a team hitting percentage of .262.
With the win, Minnesota State moves to 8-4 (2-2 NSIC) on the season. The Mavericks will take on Minnesota Crookston Saturday, Sept. 24 with first serve set for 4:00 p.m.
