      Sioux Falls, S.D. --- The Minnesota State men's cross country team opened 2016 with a second-place finish at the Augustana Twilight Invitational held in Sioux Falls S.D., Friday evening.

The four-mile event was held at Yankton Trails.

Host Augustana topped the 22-team field by tallying 32 points. The Mavericks registered 96 points in placing second and was followed by Black Hills State (106), Nebraska-Kearney (131), Northwestern (Iowa) (138), Morningside (220), Sioux Falls (236), North Iowa Area CC (259), Winona State (271) and Dordt (295).

Sophomore Austin Pasch posted a time of 19:34.24 with his ninth-place finish pacing the Mavericks. Sophomore Caleb Burke (19:39.11 placed 13th, sophomore Steven Erredge (19:46.75) finished 18th, sophomore Derek Cruz (19:52.12) placed 22nd, freshman Austin Yardley (20:11.13) was 38th, junior Thomas Schiltz (20:14.73) was 41st and freshman Isaiah Rabata (21:02.17) finished in 96th place. Other Mavericks and their results included sophomore Michael Hoff (22:03.77, 158th) and junior Derek Finsterwalder (22:28.01, 175th).

Next action for the Mavericks is Sept.17 when they compete at the St. Olaf Invitational in Northfield, Minn.
