Minnesota State Looks to Extend Win Streak on the Road

MANKATO, Minn. ---  The Minnesota State women's basketball team will travel to MSU Moorhead on Friday to take on Dragons at 6:00 p.m. The Mavericks will then take on No. 25 Northern State on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. 

Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State resumes play after the holiday break riding a three game win streak and has an 7-2 overall record and 3-2 NSIC record. In their most recent game, the Mavericks dismantled Waldorf, 82-59. MSU had three players reach double digits in scoring: Senior Britney Scherber (20), freshman Taylor Klug (14), and freshman Taylor Drost (10). 

Impact Mavericks: Junior Claire Ziegler leads the Mavericks in both scoring (13.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.9 rbg). Sophomore Monica Muth is distributing a team-best 2.7 assists while senior Sammie Delzotto is creating a team-high 1.8 steals per game. 

Stat Pack: As a team this season, Minnesota State is averaging 77.3 points per game in comparison to its opponents 68.3. Additionally, the Mavericks are totaling 44.3 rebounds per contest and 15.3 assists per game. 

Controlling the Boards: The Mavericks are collecting 44.3 rebounds per game which ranks first in the NSIC. Minnesota State has a +10.8 rebounding margin and has out rebounded its opponents in eight games this season.

Scouting MSU Moorhead: MSU Moorhead is located in Moorhead, Minn. The Dragons enter the week a nine game winning streak and have an overall record of 9-1 and 6-0 NSIC. In their most recent game, MSU Moorhead took down No. 18 Northern State, 69-66. The Dragons are led by head coach Karla Nelson who is in her 17th season. 

The last time these two schools met last season, Minnesota State fell to MSU Moorhead, 65-50, at Taylor Center. The Mavericks lead the all-time series, 26-14. Additionally, Minnesota State is 5-1 since 2012 vs. MSU Moorhead. 

As a team this season, the Dragons are posting 70.4 points per game in comparison to their opponents 52.4. Additionally, MSU Moorhead is totaling 38.8 rebounds per game and 14.3 assists per contest.

Scouting #25 Northern State: Northern State is located in Aberdeen, S.D., and has an overall record of 8-2 and 4-2 NSIC. In their most recent game, the Wolves fell to MSU Moorhead, 69-66. Northern State is led by head coach Curt Fredrickson who is in his 37th season. 

The last time these two schools met last season, Minnesota State dropped a 74-61 decision to Northern State at Taylor Center. The overall series between these two schools is  locked 9-9 and the Mavericks have not defeated the Wolves since the 2013 season. 

As a team this season, the Wolves are netting 66.0 points per game in comparison to their opponents 54.0. Additionally, Northern State adds 37.3 rebounds per contest and 15.9 assists per game. 

Junior Miranda Ristau leads the Wolves in both scoring (15.1 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rbg). Senior Bethany Crosswait is distributing a team-best 3.2 assists per game. 

Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will return to Taylor Center on Jan. 6 to take on Augustana. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
