Minnesota State Takes on Concordia-St. Paul and Waldorf

MANKATO, Minn. ---  The Minnesota State women's basketball team will travel to Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday with tip-off set for 2:00 p.m. The Mavericks will then return to home to take on Waldorf in nonconference action on Monday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State enters the week with a 5-2 overall record and a 2-2 NSIC record. Last weekend, the Mavericks suffered a 79-64 loss to No. 12 Winona State. Freshman Taylor Klug netted a team-high 12 points. 

In their most recent game, Minnesota State rebounded with a 74-63 win over Upper Iowa. Junior Claire Ziegler posted a game-high 24 points and added a game-best nine rebounds. Sophomore Monica Muth also netted a career-high 19 points. 

Impact Mavericks: Junior Claire Ziegler ranks fifth in the NSIC in rebounding with 8.3 per contest. She also leads the Mavericks in scoring netting a team-high 14.7 points per game. Sophomore Monica Muth is distributing a team-best 20 assists this season. 

Stat Pack: As a team this season, Minnesota State is averaging 75.4 points per game in comparison to its opponents 69.7. Additionally, the Mavericks are totaling 43.6 rebounds and 14.7 assists per game. 

Controlling the Boards: The Mavericks are collecting 43.6 rebounds per game which ranks first in the NSIC. Minnesota State has a +9.4 rebounding margin and has out rebounded its opponents in six of its first seven games. 

Setting the Pace: The Mavericks are scoring 75.4 points per game this season which ranks third in the NSIC. Additionally, MSU is notching a +5.7 scoring margin.  

Shooting from Downtown: Minnesota State has a .371 three point field goal percentage this season which ranks fourth in the NSIC. Senior Sammie Delzotto ranks second in the NSIC with a .519 three point field goal percentage. 

From the Field: Minnesota State ranks fifth in the NSIC in field goal percentage with .430. Junior Claire Ziegler is slotted fifth in the NSIC with a .548 field goal shooting percentage. 

In the Third: The Mavericks are averaging 19.7 points in the third quarter in comparison to their opponents 15.4. 

The Charity Stripe: Minnesota State is posting a .671 free throw percentage this season (104-155).  

Home Sweet Home: The Mavericks hold a 3-1 record at Taylor Center and a 2-1 record in road games this season. 

Scouting Concordia-St. Paul: Concordia-St. Paul is located in St. Paul, Minn., and has an overall record of 7-3 and a 3-1 NSIC record. The Golden Bears enter the week riding a three game win streak after most recently upsetting No. 12 Winona State, 66-59, in St. Paul, Minn. CSP is led by head coach Amanda Johnson who is in her first season. 

The last time these two schools met last season, Concordia-St. Paul defeated Minnesota State, 73-64, in St. Paul, Minn. Since 2012, The Mavericks are 6-3 against the Golden Bears and lead the all-time series, 13-6.

As a team this season, Concordia St. Paul is netting 65.6 points per game in comparison to their opponents 63.4. Additionally, the Golden Bears are totaling 37.9 rebounds and 13.3 assists per game. 

Junior Kyrah Fredenburg leads CSP in rebounds with 10.9 per game which slots her second in the NSIC. Sophomore Anna Schmitt is netting 16.0 points per game to rank her fifth in the NSIC. 

Scouting Waldorf: Waldorf is located in Forest City, Iowa and is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The Warriors have an overall record of 2-11 and a 0-2 North Star Athletic Association record (NSAA). In their most recent game, Waldorf dropped a 92-42 decision to University of Jamestown. The Warriors are led by head coach Katie Schutjer who is in her third season. 

The last time these two schools met was during the 2011 season when Minnesota State downed Waldorf, 88-46, at Taylor Center. The Mavericks lead the all-time series, 1-0. 

As a team this season, the Warriors are posting 55.8 points per game compared to their opponents 75.1. Additionally, Waldorf is notching 11.4 assists per game and 37.5 rebounds per contest. 

Sophomore Ameh Ogbemudia leads the Warriors with 13.5 points per game and is pulling down a team-best 6.1 rebounds per contest. Sophomore Samatha Birkes is distributing a team-high 34 assists and is netting 13.3 points per contest.

Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will return to action on Dec. 30 when it travels to MSU Moorhead. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
