Mavericks Close Out Regular Season with Two Home Matches



MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State University volleyball team is set to close out the regular season at home against Bemidji State on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The Mavericks will then host Minnesota Crookston on Senior Day with first serve set for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State enters the week with an overall record of 14-12 and a 8-10 record in the Northern Sun Collegiate Conference (NSIC). The Mavericks have won their last five out of six matches entering the final week of the regular season . 

Senior Day: The Mavericks will honor five seniors prior to their regular season finale against Minnesota Crookston. Minnesota State will recognize libero Haley Fogarty, libero Rissi McNallan, middle blocker Krista Hassing, outside hitter Lexi Platz, and outside hitter Sydney Geisness

NSIC Tournament Scenerio: The Mavericks trail Northern State by one match in a race for the final NSIC Tournament spot. 

By the Numbers: As a team this season, the Mavericks are posting 12.6 kills per set compared to its opponents 12.3. Additionally, Minnesota State adds 11.9 assists per set and 15.0 digs per set.  

Impact Mavericks: Sophomore Autumn Risch leads the Mavericks with a team-high 10.4 assists per set. Senior Krista Hassing is totaling a team-leading 3.6 kills per set while senior Haley Fogarty contributes a team-best 4.0 digs per set. 

Helping Hand: Sophomore Autumn Risch posted a total of 94 kills last weekend which included a match-high 54 assists at St. Cloud State. Risch has tallied at least 40 assists in 14 matches this season .

Hittin' Double Digits: Three Mavericks reached double digits in kills against St. Cloud State: Krista Hassing (17),  sophomore Morgan Olson (16) and sophomore Sydney Powell (11)

Hot Streak: Minnesota State won five straight matches and  matched their longest NSIC winning streak since the 2011 season which included an upset win over No. 13 Northern State. 

Scouting Bemidji State: Bemidji State is located in Bemidji, Minn., and has an overall record of 7-20 and 3-15 conference record. The Beavers are members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Bemidji State enters the week on a seven match losing streak and has not won a road contest this season. In their most recent match, the Beavers fell to Upper Iowa, 3-2, in Bemidji, Minn. BSU is led by head coach Kevin Ulmer, who is in his first season. 

Earlier this season, Minnesota State swept Bemidji State, 3-0, in Bemidji, Minn. The Mavericks lead the all-time series, 34-17. Since 2006, Minnesota State is 11-1 against the Beavers. 

As a team this season, Bemidji State averages 11.6 kills per set in comparison to opponents 13.5. Additionally, the Beavers add 10.7 assists and 13.5 digs per set. 

Bemidji State is led by senior Jessica Yost who is notching a team-best 3.38 kills per set. Freshman Shelby Haney is totaling a team-high 7.71 digs per set while freshman Emma Hallmann rounds out the top performers with 3.41 digs per set. 

Scouting Minnesota Crookston: Minnesota Crookston is located in Crookston, Minn., and has an overall record of 10-16 and 6-12 conference record. The Golden Eagles are members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate conference (NSIC). Minnesota Crookston enters the week having lost their last five out of six matches. Most recently, the Golden Eagles fell to Winona State University, 3-1, in Crookston, Minn. 

Earlier this season, Minnesota State dropped a 3-2 decision to the Golden Eagles in Crookston, Minn. However, the Mavericks lead the all-time series, 12-5. 

As a team this season, Minnesota Crookston is posting 11.8 kills per set in comparison to oppenents 11.7. The Golden Eagles add 11.1 assists per set and 14.4 digs per set. 

Minnesota Crookston is led by redshirt junior Maggie Perrel who is totaling a team-best 3.53 kills per set. Senior Sierra Trost is contributing a team-high 9.88 assists per set while redshirt freshman Ali Schueler adds 3.86 digs per set.
