Mavericks Pick Up Fifth Straight Win After Downing St. Cloud State, 3-1

Minnesota State matches longest NSIC win streak since 2011

Box Score ST. CLOUD, Minn. ---  The Minnesota State volleyball team downed St. Cloud State, 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22), Friday evening at Halenbeck Hall. With the win, the Mavericks pick up their fifth straight win and match their longest NSIC winning streak since 2011. 

Both teams exchanged points to lock the opening frame at 13 until Minnesota State went on a 6-0 run to create a 19-13 advantage after a Krista Hassingkill. St. Cloud State battled back to cut the lead down to two, 21-19. However, Minnesota State then went on to close out the set, 25-20. 

The Mavericks found offense quickly in the second frame establishing a 7-2 lead to force a St. Cloud State time out. The Huskies responded to deadlock the set at 10. St. Cloud State then expanded their lead to six, 20-14. Minnesota State fought back with 4-0 run highlighted by two Morgan Olson kills to draw within two, 20-18. The Huskies went on to steal the set, 25-21. 

Following the intermission, both teams traded points to lock the frame at 18 heading into the final stretch. The Mavericks then created a two point lead, 23-21, following kills from Maddie Keute and Sydney Powell. Minnesota State went on to win the set, 25-22. 

In the forth and final set, the Mavericks took control with a early 8-3 edge to force the Huskies to use a time out. Later in the frame, St. Cloud State battled back to within two, 20-18. Minnesota State answered by swelling their lead back up to four, 23-19, after a Hassing kill. The Mavericks went on to win the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-1. 

Minnesota State held the edge in kills (58-57), assists (55-52), and blocks (12-9). St. Cloud State posted a match-high 75 digs. 

Keute led Minnesota State with a career-best 31 digs while sophomore Autumn Risch totaled a match-high 54 assists. Three Mavericks reached double digits in kills: Hassing (17), Olson (16) and Powell (11). 

With the win, Minnesota State moves to 14-11 (8-9 NSIC) on the season. The Mavericks will travel to No. 2 Minnesota Duluth tomorrow with first serve set for 4:00 p.m.
