Mavericks Come Home For Series With Ohio State

What's On Tap: Minnesota State women's hockey returns home for a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series with Ohio State this weekend. The games are scheduled for Friday at 2:07 p.m., and Saturday at 2:07 p.m. 

Looking Back at Last Weekend: The Mavericks (2-9-1, 0-9-1-0  WCHA), who are coming off of a bye week, last faced No. 2 Minnesota in a two-game set -- losing 5-0 on Nov. 4 and 8-1 on Nov. 6.

Cool Like Conway: Junior forward Amanda Conway (1-1--2) scored her first goal of 2016-17 -- the eighth of her career -- at No. 2 Minnesota on Nov. 6. The winger has also tallied seven assists for 15 points in 79 career games. 

Sophomore Surge: Sophomore forward Jordan McLaughlin (1-2--3) recorded her second assist of 2016-17 -- the seventh of her Maverick career -- at No. 2 Minnesota on Nov. 6. 

Sophomore forward Emily Antony recorded her second assist of 2016-17 -- the 12th of her collegiate career -- against No. 1 Wisconsin on Oct. 28 at Verizon Wireless Center.  Antony has eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points in 48 games for Minnesota State. Both of Antony's assists have come on goals by freshman forward Demi Gardner.  

Sophomore goaltender Katie Bidulka (1-3-0) started both games in goal against No. 2 Minnesota -- making 50 saves in the two-game set. 

Fierce Freshmen: Freshman forward Demi Gardner (2-0--2) has made an immediate impact on the Minnesota State offense. The winger has scored twice in eight games. Her most recent goal came against No. 1 Wisconsin on Oct. 29. Gardner's playing time has increased with her performance and she has seen playing time on the Mavericks' first line.

Freshman forward Sofia Poinar (1-0--1), who has played in all 12 games for the Mavericks in 2016-17, leads all Maverick freshmen with 16 shots on goal -- tied with sophomore forward Jordan McLaughlin for the fifth most on the team. 

Freshman goaltender Chloe Crosby made her Maverick debut against No. 2 Minnesota on Nov. 6 -- making 12 saves in one period of action.

Assisting on the Play: The Mavericks have 20 assists on their 12 goals this season. Junior defenseman Anna Keys, sophomore forward Corbin Boyd and junior forward Hannah Davidson lead Minnesota State with three assists each. Sophomore forwards Emily Antony and Jordan McLaughlin are tied for fourth on the team with two assists each. 

Shoot Away: Junior defenseman Anna Keys leads the Mavericks with 24 shots on goal, junior forward Amanda Martin is second with 20, sophomore Emily Antony is third with 19 and senior defenseman Anna Fiegert is fourth with 18.   

Scouting Ohio State: The Buckeyes (6-7-1, 2-7-1-0  WCHA) are 3-2-0 in their last five games, including a series split at St. Cloud State last weekend. Ohio State won 3-0 on Friday before losing 4-1 on Saturday.  

The Buckeyes, who are fifth in the WCHA with 1.93 goals scored per game,  are led on offense by sophomore forward Maddy Field -- the team leader in goals (5) and points (10). Fields is second in assists (5).

Freshman Jincy Dunne (2-6--8) leads all WCHA freshmen defensemen in points.

In goal, sophomore Kassidy Sauve (6-7-1), is second in the WCHA -- fourth in the nation -- with a .949 save percentage.   
 
Last Time Around: Last season, the Mavericks went 0-3-1 against the Buckeyes, including a 0-1-1 mark at Verizon Wireless Center. In their tie, the Buckeyes earned the extra WCHA point with a 2-1 shootout win.
