Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team swept Minnesota Crookston, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Taylor Center in the final regular season match of the season.
The Mavericks sprinted out to a quick 7-3 advantage after a
Jackie Jones kill to force a Golden Eagle time out. Minnesota State did not let off the gas and swelled their lead to seven, 18-11, after back-to-back
Morgan Olson kills. Minnesota State went on to win the set, 25-18.
Minnesota Crookston fought back in the second frame to lock the score at 10. The Mavericks then used a 5-0 run highlighted by a
Haley Fogarty kill to create a 15-10 edge. The Golden Eagles then came back to draw within one, 20-19. However, Minnesota State closed the frame on a 5-2 run and went on to win, 25-21.
In the third and final set, the Mavericks took control with a early 6-2 advantage after a Minnesota Crookston attack error. Later the set, Minnesota State grew their lead to six, 20-14, after a
Sydney Geisness kill. The Mavericks went on to close out the frame, 25-18, and the match, 3-0.
Minnesota State held the edge in kills (47-34), assists (45-32), and digs (40-33). Additionally, the Mavericks posted a team hitting percentage of .406.
With the win, Minnesota State has won seven of their last eight matches and adds their seventh sweep of the season.
Sophomore
Autumn Risch led the Mavericks with a match-high 36 assists. Senior
Rissi McNallan (10) and sophomore
Maddie Keute (16) reached double digits in digs. Olson rounded out the top performers with a team-best nine kills.
Following the win, Minnesota State moves to 16-12 (10-10 NSIC) on the season and qualifies for the first round of the NSIC Tournament. The Mavericks will travel to Concordia-St. Paul on Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m.
