Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team swept Bemidji State, 3-0, Friday evening at Taylor Center in front of 412 fans.
The Mavericks quickly sprinted out to a 9-3 edge after a
Sydney Geisness kill which forced a Bemidji State time out. Following the time out, Minnesota State swelled the lead to eight , 12-4, after back-to-back
Autumn Risch service aces. The Mavericks went on to close out the frame, 25-17.
Both teams fought in the second set which featured a match-high 13 ties. The teams exchanged points to deadlock the frame at 20 before Bemidji State took a one point, 21-20, lead late in the set. The Mavericks responded to lock the set at 23 after a
Morgan Olson kill. The Beavers then answered to steal a 24-23 lead before Minnesota State went on a 3-0 run highlighted by a set winning kill by
Sydney Geisness. The Mavericks stole the second set, 26-24.
In the third and final set, Minnesota State opened with a 5-0 lead after a
Rissi McNallan service ace. The Mavericks then grew the lead up to eight, 13-5, following a
Sydney Powell kill. Later in the frame, Bemidji State came back to come within five, 20-15. However, Minnesota State went on to win the frame, 25-19, and the match, 3-0.
Minnesota State held the edge in kills (48-32), assists (45-30) and digs (36-29). Additionally, the Mavericks added a team hitting percentage of .303.
With the win, Minnesota State has won six of their last seven matches and adds their sixth sweep of the season.
Risch led the Mavericks with a match-best 39 kills and career-best three service aces. Olson (12) and Hassing (10) both reached double digits in kills. Sophomore
Maddie Keute rounded out the top performers with a team-high 13 digs.
Following the win, Minnesota State moves to 15-12 (9-10 NSIC) on the season. The Mavericks will return to Taylor Center tomorrow for Senior Day against Minnesota Crookston. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
