Box Score Sioux Falls, S.D. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (20-25, 9-25, 17-25) decision against Augustana Saturday afternoon at Elmen Center.
Minnesota State was able to create a early three point edge, 14-11, before the Vikings evened the set at 15. The teams then exchanged points until the Mavericks locked the set at 18 following a
Krista Hassing kill. Augustana responded with a 6-2 run which would give them the win the opening frame, 25-20.
In the second frame, Minnesota State struggled to find offense as the Vikings ran out a quick 9-2 lead to force a Maverick time out. Augustana would not look back and went on to win the set, 25-9.
In the third and final set, both teams were deadlocked at five following a
Rissi McNallan service ace. The Vikings answered with a 4-0 run to steal a 9-5 lead and force Minnesota State to burn a time out. Augustana went on to win the frame, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.
The Vikings held the edge in kills (38-35), assists (36-35), and digs (46-44).
Hassing led the Mavericks posting a match-high 12 kills. Sophomore
Autumn Risch tied a match-best 33 assists. Senior Haley Fogarty also tied a match-high 13 digs while Junior
Jackie Jones added 10 digs of her own to round out the top performers.
With the loss, Minnesota State moves to 9-8 (3-6 NSIC) on the season. The Mavericks will return to Taylor Center on Oct. 14 to take on Souix Falls with first serve set for 7:00 p.m.
