Mavericks Pick Up 3-1 Road Win Over U-Mary

Box Score Bismark, N.D. ---  The Minnesota State Volleyball team outlasted University of Mary, 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 27-25, 29-27), Friday evening in front of 359 fans. 

Both teams opened the match exchanging points in the first frame before the Mavericks stole a 13-12 edge after a Morgan Olson kill. Later in the set, the teams would find themselves deadlocked at 21 headed into the final stretch. The Marauders then went on a 4-0 run to win the frame, 25-21. 

In the second frame, neither team was able to create separation until the Mavericks took a 16-13 lead after a Jackie Jones kill. Minnesota State then swelled their advantage to six, 22-16, after a Brooklyn Braun service ace. The Mavericks went on to close out the Marauders, 25-17. 

Coming out of the intermission, Minnesota State captured a quick 9-7 advantage after a Krista Hassing kill. U-Mary then battled back to steal a 18-17 lead and force the Mavericks to use a time out. The teams then exchanged points to deadlock the frame at 24 before the Mavericks went on a 3-1 run highlighted by a set winning kill by Hassing to ice the frame, 27-25. 

In the fourth and final set, both teams traded points to lock the match at 17 at the midway point. Minnesota State was then able to take a one point, 21-20, lead after a Maddie Keute kill and force a U-Mary time out. The Mavericks then opened up a 24-22 lead only to watch the Marauders storm back to tie the frame at 24. Both teams continued to fight and locked the game at 27 before the Mavericks rattled off back-to-back points highlighted by a Sydney Powell kill. Minnesota State went on to win the set, 29-27, and the match, 3-1. 

U-Mary held the edge in kills (63-52), assists (59-48), and digs (57-54). 

Minnesota State leads the all-time series, 13-0. 

Sophomore Autumn Risch led the Mavericks with a match-high 43 assists. Both Hassing (19) and Olson (15) each reached double digits in kills. Powell and Keute each notched team-best 12 digs to round out the Maverick top performers. 

With the win, Minnesota State moves to 10-11 (4-9 NSIC) on the season. The Mavericks will return to the floor tomorrow at Minot State with first serve set for 4:00 p.m.
