St. Paul, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (15-25, 12-25, 12-25) decision Friday evening at the Gangelhoff Center.
Concordia-St. Paul took control of the match early with a 12-8 advantage causing Minnesota State to burn a time out. Following the break, the Golden Bears went on a 5-0 run to grow their lead to nine, 17-8. Minnesota State battled back to cut the deficit to eight, 22-14, after a
Morgan Olson kill. Concordia-St. Paul then went on to close out the set, 25-15.
The Golden Bears captured a 9-4 edge in the second set before the Mavericks elected to use a time out. Minnesota State then pulled within four, 9-5, following a
Krista Hassing kill. The Mavericks would not be able to draw any closer and went on to drop the frame, 25-12.
In the third and final set, Concordia-St. Paul jumped out to a quick 13-3 edge. Minnesota State responded with a 5-1 run highlighted by two kills from Olson to cut the difference down to six, 14-8. The Golden Bears then went on to close out the set, 25-12, and the match, 3-0.
Concordia-St. Paul held the edge in kills (45-21), assists (44-19), and digs (52-36).
Sophomore
Autumn Risch led the Mavericks with a team-best 18 assists. Hassing notched a team-high nine kills while Olson tallied six kills of her own. Sophomore
Maddie Keute rounded out the Minnesota State top performers with a team-best nine digs.
With the loss, Minnesota State moves to 9-11 (3-9 NSIC) on the season. The Mavericks will return to action when they travel to University of Mary on Friday with first serve set for 7:00 p.m.
