Minnesota State Bests Vikings, Blugolds

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's swimming and diving team won a total off 11 events in its double dual against Augustana and UW-Eau Claire Saturday evening.

MSU tallied two team scores of 168 and 163 points, while the Blugolds notched team scores of 163 and 117 points. The Vikings posted team scores of 120 and 106 points as well.

The Mavericks posted the top times in both relay events. The team of junior Cecilia Hake, sophomore Alycia Holwerda, senior Nicole Bean and senior Cheyenne Rova won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.39. The quartet of Bean, Cecilia Hake, freshman Maggie Knier and junior Taylor Bass won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.52 as well.

Minnesota State also won both diving events. Freshman Lauren Hake tallied 241.20 points to win the 1-meter diving event, while freshman Jaycie Klein followed in second place with 234.25 points. Freshman Krista Kovar won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 228.40, while Lauren Hake took second place with a score of 224.15.

Along with its two victories in the relay and the diving events, the Mavericks also won seven individual events.

Both Rova and Cecilia Hake turned in a pair of first-place finishes. Rova won both the 50-yard freestyle (24.14) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.16), while Cecilia Hake won the 50-yard backstroke (26.61) and the 100-yard backstroke (58.48) events. Rova also turned in a second place finish in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 26.83.

The duo of junior Chelsea Calhoon and Bass turned in the top two finishes in the 200-yard freestyle event. Calhoon finished first with a time of 1:57.45, with Bass following right behind with a time of 1:59.39. Junior Kylie Gaeth won the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 59.29, while Bean posted the top finish in the 50-yard butterfly event with a time of 26.92 as well.

Minnesota State returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 5, as it takes on Gustavus Adolphus and UW-Stevens Point at 1:00 p.m. MSU will host the diving events, while GAC hosts the swimming events.
