Bemidji, Minn. --- Minnesota State lost 3-1 at Bemidji State in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match on Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks' (4-3-1, 3-2-0 NSIC) goal was scored by freshman
Alesha Duccini -- her fourth of the season -- in the 78th minute. Duccini's goal ties her with freshman
Taylor Kenealy for the second-highest total on the team. Duccini also has the second-most points with 10. Sophomore
Morgan Cottew leads the Mavericks in goals (5) and points (12).
The Beavers (7-2-0, 5-1-0 NSIC), who are receiving votes in the national poll, jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Bayley Ertl scored her first of two goals on the afternoon. Bemidji State widened its lead to 2-0 in the 35th minute when Sarah Stram found the back of the net.
After halftime, the Mavericks fought back and pulled within one (2-1) when Duccini scored in the 78th minute. However, Ertl responded for the Beavers -- scoring in the 84th minute to make the score 3-1.
Minnesota State's offense was active -- outshooting Bemidji State 18-13 in the match , including 13-7 in the second half. However, the Mavericks lost 3-1 as they were unable cut any further into the Beavers' lead.
Freshman
Alexa Rabune (2-3-1) made five saves in goal for the Mavericks and Catherine Arneson stopped nine shots for the Beavers.
The Mavericks return to action at noon on Sunday at Minnesota Crookston in Crookston, Minn.
