MOORHEAD, Minn. --- The Minnesota State swimming and diving team won a total of eight events Saturday afternoon, but it ultimately fell to MSU Moorhead 160-137.
Junior
Cheyenne Rova made her presence felt for the Mavericks as she won both 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events with times of 24.08 and 53.96, respectively. Sophomore
Cecilia Hakewon the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.62, while sophomore
Taylor Bass posted the top finish in the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:57.67.
Senior
Samantha Rasmussen and junior
Kylie Gaeth each won an individual event as well. Rasmussen won the 1,000-yard freestyle event with a time of 11:03.28, while Gaeth posted a time of 59.40 in the 100-yard butterfly.
The Mavericks also won a pair of relay events. The team of Hake, freshman
Alycia Holwerda, Gaeth and Rova turned in a time of 1:48.58 in the 200-yard medley relay, while the team of Bass, Rova, Hake and Gaeth won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:39.76.
Freshman
Hannah Guy took third place in the one-meter diving event with 415.66 points.
The Mavericks return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 17, as they take part in the four-day New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships in Cleveland, Miss.
