MANKATO, Minn. --- Fifth-rated Minnesota State used a pair of shutouts to sweep Concordia-St. Paul on Friday afternoon at the MSU Baseball Complex by scores of 1-0 and 10-0, respectively. With the wins the Mavericks push their winning streak to 10 games.
In game one, the Mavericks and Golden Bears combined for just ten hits. MSU starting pitcher freshman
Brody Rodning pitched a complete game allowing just two hits and no earned runs with five strikeouts. Senior
Max Waletich had the only RBI in the game with walk-off single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to give MSU the 1-0 win.
Rodning's record improves to 6-0 with the win. Waletich paced the Mavericks offense going 2-4 with an RBI.
In game two, MSU got on the board in the first inning. sophomore
Eric Peterson led off the inning with a walk and senior
Connor McCallum bunted him over to second. Waletich than singled Peterson in to put the Mavericks up 1-0.
MSU tacked on another run in the third inning after redshirt freshman
Josh Crosby scored although the Golden Bears turned a double play. In the fourth redshirt freshman
Dylan Dresel hit an RBI single up the middle and redshirt freshman
Luke Waldek also hit an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0.
In the fifth, MSU rallied for three runs with an RBI double by Waletich, an RBI single by senior
Nolan Johnson, and a RBI double by Waldek. Then in the sixth Peterson hit his third home run of the season to push the Mavericks lead to 9-0. The Mavericks ended the game in the seventh when redshirt freshman
Brennan Gilyard hit an RBI double to force the 10-run rule.
Freshman
Dalton Roach pitched a two-hit complete-game shutout and struck out five batters to move to 4-1 on the season.
Peterson led the offensive charge for MSU fiinishing 2-3 with two RBI and three runs scored and that home run. Waletich finished his day 3-4 with two RBI while junior
Taylor Branstad also went 3-4.
The Mavericks and Golden Bears will be back in action again tomorrow at the MSU Baseball Complex for a twinbill. The first pitch is slated for noon.
