Mavericks Take on Huskies Monday Night

What's On Tap: The Minnesota State women's hockey team will play one of its final three road games on Monday night against the Huskies of St. Cloud State.

The Mavericks (3-27-1, 1-23-1 WCHA) and Huskies (6-25-1, 3-21-1 WCHA) will square off at 7:07 p.m. inside Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. MSU will look to stop a four-game losing streak while SCSU comes into the game on an 11 game losing skid.

Last Time on the Ice: Minnesota State played its final home games last weekend against Bemidji State at All Seasons Arena. MSU was swept by the Beavers, losing by scores of 4-0 and 4-3, respectively.

On Friday night, MSU found themselves down 2-0 after two periods of play and the Beavers added another two goals to close out the game. BSU netminder Brittni Mowat produced 26 saves against in the shutout while senior Erin Krichiver recorded 53 saves in the loss.

Saturday's contest saw the Mavericks take two goal lead in the first period after goals by a pair of freshmen in Nicole Schammel and Elin Johansson. BSU came back and scored four straight goals to take a 4-2 lead. MSU countered back at 15:09 with freshman Anna Keys' third score of the season. The Mavericks made one last push but came up short after a costly penalty in the final minutes.

Looking at the Huskies: St. Cloud State comes Monday's game with an 11-game losing streak and the owner of an overall record of 6-25-1 and a 3-21-1 record in WCHA play. The Huskies hosted North Dakota last weekend and dropped both games by scores of 4-0 and 2-0, respectively.

St. Cloud is led by head coach Eric Rud who is in his first season at the helm of the Huskies program. Junior Molly Illikainen (F, 5-9, Grand Rapids, Minn.) is the leading scorer for SCSU tallying 9-7--16 in 32 games played. Senior's Audrey Hanmer (D, 5-7, Wyoming, Minn.) and Abby Ness(F, 5-6, Roseau, Minn.) have also recorded double digit in points this season. Hanmer has recorded 5-8--13 and Ness has 3-7--10 this season. Senior Julie Friend (G, 5-8, Minnetonka, Minn.) has seen action in 19 games in goal and has a goals against average of 3.69 with a save percentage of .894. Junior Katie Fitzgerald (G, 5-10, Des Plaines, Ill.) has played in 15 games in goal this season with a goals against average of 2.88 and stopping shots at a .909 clip.

The Huskies are averaging 1.19 goals per game while allowing 3.47 and  are averaging 22.7 shots per game while allowing 33.3.

Last Time Around: The Mavericks hosted the Huskies at All Seasons Arena defeating them by a score of 5-1.

Minnesota State All-Time: The MSU women's hockey program - started in 1998-99 - is currently in its 17th season of competition and has compiled a 161-376-48 (.317) record in 585 total games played. The Mavericks are in their 16th year as members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and boast an 90-297-40 (.260) mark in 425 league contests.
