MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's basketball team defeated Waldorf College, 91-45, in an exhibition contest on Wednesday evening at Taylor Center.
The Mavericks shot 55% from the field in the game and held the Warriors to 28% from the field and forced 28 turnovers. MSU also converted on eight three-pointers in the contest and all 11 Maverick players scored on the night.
Four MSU players reach double figures and was led by junior guard
Sammie Delzotto [Eagan, Minn.] as she paced the Maverick offense with 17 points and added three rebounds and two assists. Freshman forward
Taylor Paulsrud [Rogers, Minn.] added 12 points in her first career action at Taylor Center, while guards
Britney Scherber [Bloomington, Minn.]and
Madison Lee [Coon Rapids, Minn.] finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Three other Mavericks ended the game with eight points apiece in senior
McKenzie Hoelmenn [Lakeville, Minn.], sophomore
Claire Ziegler [Mankato, Minn.] and freshman
Monica Muth [Cambridge, Wis.], while Ziegler also hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds.
Minnesota State built its first double-digit lead of the game at 21-9 with 30 seconds left in the first quarter. The Mavericks were able to keep building on their lead over the Warriors as MSU forced 12 WC first half turnovers and held the Warriors to just 29% from the field. The Mavericks went into halftime with a 40-22 lead over the Warriors.
In the second half it was more of the same for the Mavericks as they kept on extending their lead over the Warriors. After three quarters MSU led, 62-33, over WC and was able to outscore the Warriors 29-12 in the final quarter of play to give the Mavericks the 91-45 victory.
MSU will play its final exhibition game of the season on Sunday, as it will take on the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
