Davidson Tallies Fourth Goal of the Season in 2-1 Loss to No. 3 Minnesota

Quade stops 29 of 31 in one-goal loss to Gophers

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team bounced back from Friday's 11-1 defeat versus the University of Minnesota, a team that has outscored opponents 92-21 on the season, Saturday afternoon at Verizon Wireless Center.

The Mavericks held the No. 3 Gophers to just one goal in the first period. At 11:05 Cara Piazza netted her eighth goal of the season off of a pass from linemate Kelly Pannek.  Minnesota State goaltender, junior Brianna Quade (Newcastle, Ont.) came away from the period stopping 11 of Minnesota's 12 shots while Gopher goalie Sidney Peters saved all four of Minnesota State's shots.  The Maverick penalty kill proved to be healthy once again as the Mavericks were able to deplete both of Minnesota's power-play opportunities.

The second frame saw more action from Minnesota State as they generated seven shots compared to Minnesota's 10.  At the 10:17 mark of the stanza, junior Anna Fiegert (Landshut, Germany) fired a pass off of the boards behind the Gopher goal from the point.  Junior Savannah Quandt (Mankato, Minn.) made a great hustle play as she darted to the opposing goal and put a shot on net that ultimately produced a rebound for sophomore Hannah Davidson (Kincardine, Ont.) to slide past Peters.  Davidson's power-play goal tied things up at one goal apiece, but was not enough to hold off Minnesota as they scored the game's last goal at 14:32.  Dani Cameranesi drilled home her 18th goal of the season on a play set up by Milica McMillen at the top of the point.  The Mavericks finished the period going 1-2 on the man advantage and Quade stopping nine more Gopher shots.

The scoreless third period saw one penalty from Minnesota with the Mavericks unable to capitalize on the extra-attacker opportunity.  Minnesota State stayed out of the box finishing the game with three penalties, parallel to the Gophers three infractions.  The final shot count on the day saw Minnesota outshooting the Mavericks by a clip of 31-16 with Quade halting 29 and Peters stopping 15 for the Gophers.

Minnesota State now 2-15-1 (0-14-0 WCHA) on the year will not see action until January 3-4, 2016 when they host non-conference opponent Lindenwood University. Both games are slated for 2:07 p.m. at Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato.
