WARRENSBURG, Mo. --- The Minnesota State women's soccer team suffered just their second loss of the 2015 season Friday afternoon in Warrensburg, Mo. The loss to Central Missouri marked the only time the Mavericks were shutout all season long.
After the loss, Minnesota State finished their 2015 campaign with an overall record of 18-2-2.
Though neither team was able to produce a lead in the first half, Central Missouri did carry an 7-1 advantage in shots. The Jennies put the pressure on early and had a couple of opportunities to jump ahead in the first five minutes. Maverick goalkeeper, senior
Lauren Hoeppner (Lakeville, Minn.) was able to come up with a big save for MSU near the seven minute mark to keep things even at zeros. At the end of the first half, Hoeppner had tallied four saves as Central Missouri goalkeeper, Ana Dilkes, did not record any as none of the Maverick shots landed on goal.
In the second half, Minnesota State found their groove and tacked on six shots while the Jennies produced seven. With just 2:47 remaining in regulation, UCM was able to find the back of the net as Hannah Pyle put a ball in the Minnesota State box for Baylie Edwards to drive home. Central Missouri took a 1-0 lead and sustained it through the rest of the match. Â
The Mavericks had four players who played throughout the entire 90-minute match, not including Hoeppner. Those four players include sophomores
Abby Nordeen (Huntly, Ill.) and
Lexi Pszanka (Rapid City, S.D.), junior
Dana Savino (Vadnais Heights, Minn.), and freshman
Abby Hausken (Oakdale, Minn.).
Â
Hoeppner ended the game totaling eight saves while Dilkes stopped all four of the shots Minnesota State put on net. In the shots and shots on goal categories, UCM found an advantage in both by clips of 14-7 and 9-4, respectively.
Hoeppner moved her record to 18-2-2 on the year, playing in her 19th complete game of the season.
With the 2015 season coming to a close, the Mavericks 18 wins are the second most in a single season in program history.
