MANKATO, Minn. --- No. 6 Minnesota State won its NSIC-leading 13th game Friday afternoon in the rainy conditions at The Pitch.
With the win, the Mavericks increase their record to 13-1-1 on the season and 11-0-1 in the Northern Sun. After the match, Minnesota Duluth's record moves to 4-9-2 on the season and 3-7-2 against NSIC competition.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half of action. At the end of the 45-minute period, the Bulldogs found themselves holding and advantage in shots on goal with three compared to Minnesota State's one.
The second half of play matched the back and fourth intensity seen in the first. Though niether team found themselves with a lead after regulation, there were opportunities. Maverick freshman
Morgan Cottew (Minneapolis, Minn.) drilled the post in the latter minutes of the half. By the time the buzzer sounded the end of regulation, the Mavericks were leading the Bulldogs in shots on goal by a clip of 5-4. Lauren Hoeppner (Lakeville, Minn.) tallied four.
The overtime period didn't see much action as it lasted just three minutes and 18 seconds. Senior defenseman
Emily Erickson (Woodbury, Minn.) played the ball up in the Bulldogs zone from the left to senior forward
Jessica Bowe (Anoka, Minn.) at the top of the box. Bowe was able to let loose a quick shot that zipped by a diving Ng. The golden goal marks Bowe's first game-winner of the season and second of her career.
Hoeppner recorded her 13th win on the year increasing her record to 13-1-1 in 2015. The scoreless game also marked her eighth shutout victory on the season.
No. 6 Minnesota State will return to The Pitch on Sunday, October 25th, to square up against a 6-3-2 St. Cloud State. The match is set to start at 1:00 p.m. in Mankato.
