ABERDEEN, S.D. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team ran into a tough opponent in No. 6 Northern State Saturday evening as the Wolves swept the Mavericks by the scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-20.
With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 12-7 on the season, including a 6-5 NSIC record. With the win, the Wolves remain perfect with a 19-0 overall record and an 11-0 conference record.
The Wolves never trailed throughout the opening set as they took the set 25-15, while hitting .241. Senior
Krista Hassing tallied four kills in the first set for the Mavericks, while freshman
Autumn Risch passed out six assists.
Northern State opened the second set with a 10-3 lead, before finishing the set on a 15-7 run to claim a 25-10 win in the second frame. Hassing notched three kills for the Mavericks in the second set, while Northern State boasted a .357 hitting percentage.
The third set saw the Wolves build a 15-12 lead, but the Mavericks were able to keep the score close as they trailed by two at 21-19. Northern State was able to finish the set and the match on a 4-1 run to close out the set with a 25-20 win.
Hassing finished the match with a team-leading nine kills and four total blocks, while junior
Sydney Geisness added seven kills. Risch passed out 21 assists as well.
Tori Biach led the NSU offense with nine kills, while Cari McGarvie tallied eight. Drew Smith posted 36 assists as well as NSU hit .318 as a team.
The Mavericks return home for a three-match homestand Tuesday as they host #1 Concordia-St. Paul. The opening serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
