Hunter and Company Shine at Jack Johnson Classic

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's track and field team traveled to the University of Minnesota campus to participate in the Jack Johnson Classic.

Sophomore Myles Hunter (Conyers, Ga.) continued his amazing season in record fashion. In the 60-meter hurdles, Hunter broke his own school record by bounding to a final time of 7.74. This makes him not only the number one time in Division II, but fourth-best across all divisions.

Richard Wilhite, Jr. (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished the day in third-place in the 200-meters with a time of 22.25. The 3000-meters saw two Mavericks in the top-ten. Austin O'Brien (Bettendorf, Iowa) finished in third with a time of 8:26.26, which also provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Division II National Championship Meet. Senior Josiah Swanson (Fond du Lac, Wis.) would finish shortly after that in eigtht.

The 4x400-meter relay team, comprised of Javontee Brice (Bradenton, Fla.), Zach Gearman (Burnsville, Minn.), Victor Bowen (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Emmanuel Matadi (St. Paul, Minn.) came in seventh-place with a time of 3:22.58.

Rumeal Harris (Eden Prairie, Minn.) led the Maverick charge in the field events finishing third in the long jump with a mark of 21'4.25".

Not to be ignored, heptathlon record-holder Nathan Hancock (Independence, Mo.) met the provisional qualifying standard this weekend finishing with 5,232 points. This ranks him third in Division II.

The Mavericks return to Mankato next Saturday as they are set to host the annual Ted Nelson Classic, in Myers Field House.
