On Tap: #3 Minnesota State (19-5-1 overall, 15-2-1 WCHA) resumes Western Collegiate Hockey Association action this weekend by hosting Ferris State (11-13-1 overall, 8-8-0 WCHA). The Mavericks square-off against the Bulldogs at Verizon Wireless Center (4,832) Friday (7:00 p.m.) and Saturday (7:00 p.m.) CST in downtown Mankato.
Minnesota State Most Recently: Minnesota State stands 19-5-1 overall (15-2-1 WCHA) after posting a 1-1 record at the 2015 North Star Cup which was played at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Mavericks downed #17 Minnesota 4-2 in their first game Friday before dropping a 3-1 decision to Bemidji State in the championship game Saturday.
Minnesota State enters the series with Ferris State having gone 14-2-1 in its last 17 games.About Ferris State: The Bulldogs, who enter the weekend with an 11-13-1 overall mark and are 8-8-0 WCHA, were idle last weekend. The last time out - Jan. 16-17, Ferris State dropped a pair of league home games to the Mavericks (2-1, 3-1). FSU is led offensively by junior forward Matt Robertson (6-15--21), senior forward Justin Buzzeo (6-9--15) and sophomore forwards Chad McDonald (8-6--14) and Gerald Mayhew (6-9--15). Senior netminder C.J. Motte (11-13-1, 2.02, .927), was a finalist for Hobey Baker Award last season, has started all 25 games for Ferris State. Head coach Bob Daniels (Michigan State '82) is in his 23rd year behind the Ferris State bench and enters the weekend owning a 390-402-88 career record.
Minnesota State is 10-3-2 in the all-time series vs. Ferris State. The Mavericks have won the last five meetings between the two schools.
